The Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, has commended the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force for the sanitation exercise carried out at Orie-ugba market in Umuahia and Cemetery Market, Aba.
The exercise, which took place as part of the activities marking the National Police Day 2026, was described by the Commissioner as a demonstration of the Police Force’s commitment not only to security but also to environmental cleanliness and public health.
Ogbonna praised the officers and personnel involved for their diligence and thoroughness in ensuring that the markets were properly cleaned, thereby making the places more hygienic for traders and residents.
He further noted that such initiatives contribute significantly to promoting a cleaner and healthier environment across the state, while strengthening collaboration between government institutions and the public.
The Honourable Commissioner used the opportunity to call on other organisations, community groups, and members of the public to emulate this act of civic responsibility demonstrated by the Nigeria Police.
He emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a collective duty that requires the active participation of all stakeholders.
“The Ministry is committed to supporting initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and encourages continued partnerships aimed at keeping communities clean and safe”, the Commissioner said.
