APC Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Stakeholders Endorse Peaceful Congress, Pass Vote of Confidence in Hon. Chris Nkwonta

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency have reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful, transparent, and credible party congress, while passing a vote of explicit confidence in the Member representing the constituency in the 10th House of Representatives, Hon. Chief Chris Nkwonta.

This resolution was reached at a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting convened by Hon. Chris Nkwonta on Saturday, 8th February 2026, at Akwete, Ukwa-East Local Government Area of Abia State. The meeting was held ahead of the forthcoming APC congresses and was aimed at strengthening internal democracy, unity, and cohesion within the party across the constituency’s twenty INEC-recognized wards.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Nkwonta urged party leaders and members at ward and local government levels to conduct the congresses with a high sense of responsibility, inclusiveness, and strict adherence to the APC Constitution, rules, and guidelines. He emphasized that transparency and unity remain critical to sustaining the growth and strength of the APC in Ukwa Federal Constituency.

In his remarks, Chief Sir Don Ubani, former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Abia State, commended Hon. Nkwonta’s leadership, describing him as an exceptional, unifying, and forward-looking leader. He noted that Hon. Nkwonta, who also serves as Chairman, House Committee on the South East Development Commission, has significantly strengthened the APC in Ukwa through inclusive leadership and purposeful engagement. Consequently, Chief Ubani moved a vote of explicit confidence in the lawmaker, which was seconded by Hon. Sir Godson Nwulu, former Executive Chairman of Ukwa East Local Government Area.

Also speaking, Chief Dr. Eruba Digba, Ph.D, Abia State Representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), praised Hon. Nkwonta’s leadership acumen and his visible contributions to the growth of the APC in Ukwa. He particularly applauded the foresight in convening the stakeholders’ meeting in the collective interest of the party and pledged his unwavering support towards strengthening the APC in Ukwa Federal Constituency and Abia State at large.

Stakeholders expressed pride in Hon. Nkwonta’s representation, especially his initiative toward the establishment of the Ukwa Peoples’ Skill Acquisition and Recreational Centre, which is expected to positively impact youth empowerment and stimulate economic growth within the constituency.

Communiqué Resolutions

After extensive deliberations, the stakeholders unanimously resolved as follows:

1. That ahead of the forthcoming party congresses, stakeholders in each electoral ward should meet harmoniously to collectively draw up acceptable lists of party members deemed capable of effectively managing party affairs at the ward level, devoid of sentiments.

2. That for the emergence of formidable Local Government Executives in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West, Hon. Chris Nkwonta should liaise with the Abia State NDDC Board Member, Chief Eruba Digba, Ph.D, and other critical stakeholders including Sir Marc Nwabara to develop a template that will produce result-oriented party executives, taking into consideration Hon. Nkwonta’s intention to seek a second tenure.

3. That all members of the APC in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency shall, at all times, work assiduously for the success of the party, irrespective of individual interest.

4. That members of APC in Ukwa Federal Constituency express satisfaction with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and pledge maximum loyalty and support to his administration.

5. That stakeholders appreciate the harmonious partnership between Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, CFR, Ph.D, Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, and Hon. Chris Nkwonta, and wish the partnership continued growth and strength.

6. That stakeholders applaud Hon. Chris Nkwonta for his initiative towards establishing the Ukwa Peoples’ Skill Acquisition and Recreational Centre, and call on all stakeholders to give him maximum support, given its positive impact on youths and the constituency’s economy.

7. That stakeholders of APC in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency hereby pass a vote of explicit confidence in Hon. Chief Chris Nkwonta for his outstanding leadership and representation.

The meeting ended on a strong note of unity, with stakeholders reaffirming their collective commitment to a credible, peaceful, and transparent party congress that will further consolidate the APC’s position in Ukwa Federal Constituency.

The meeting was moderated by the Assistant State Secretary of APC in Abia State, Engr. Chinwendu Sterling Uruakpa.
