NDDC Flags Off Emergency Construction Of 6.5Km Ngwaiyiekwe – Owo Ala – Umuadienwe Road, Approves 233 Solar Street Light Panels

The Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), on Tuesday flagged off the emergency construction of the Ngwaiyiekwe – Owo Ala – Umuadienwe Road.

Speaking during the ceremony that held at the Owo Ala Community Town Hall, the Commissioner representing Abia State on the board of the NDDC, Dr. Eruba Dimgba, who expressed deep appreciation over the warm reception accorded him and his entourage, noted that the deplorable state of the road motivated him to seek the approval of the Commission for its construction.

He called for strong collaboration between the community and contractor, stressing that any case of low quality jobs observed should be reported immediately to the Commission. He disclosed that the project comes with a drainage system.

The Commissioner disclosed that the NDDC has approved 233 solar street light panels for Owo and Umuadienwe communities, and appealed to the host communities to ensure that unnecessary demands such as ‘marching ground” are not made from the contractor.

In his response, the Chairman of Owo Ala Community, Mr. Chinwendu Adiele thanked the NDDC Commissioner for attending the ocassion in person, and assured him of the cooperation of his community with the contractor. He pointed out that the Ngwaiyiekwe – Owo Ala – Umuadienwe Road has been constructed many times by the NDDC but it continued to fail due to poor quality jobs, adding that his community would no longer allow any poor job to be done along the road.

Adiele appealed to the Commissioner to consider awarding the Ikpokwu – Owo Ala – Owo Asa – Ngwaiyiekwe road as it is also very critical for the community.

The ocassion, which witnessed the presentation of beautiful songs by the Owo Ala women, attracted the presence of the Ukwa West Councilor for Education, Chief Dr. Chike Eugene Okpokiri.
