Abia-born Esther Ogechika Nworgu is part of the Para-Powerlifters team that Nigeria will be looking up to for medals at the forthcoming 11th World Championships scheduled for Cairo between October 9 and October 18, 2025.
It should be recalled that Nworgu won a gold medal during the second edition of the National Para Games that took place 2023 in Abuja, where she lifted a total of 112 kilograms. She also won eight gold medals at the Africa Paralympics Powerlifting Championship that held at Cairo, Egypt in 2022, and a silver medal during the World Paralympics Powerlifting Tournament at Dubai in 2023.
According to a press release issued by the Special Assistant, Media, Office of the Director General, National Sports Commission, Kola Daniel, the first batch of Team Nigeria left the country on Tuesday amid cheers and well-wishes from officials, fans and supporters, while the second batch is scheduled to leave October 8, from Lagos.
The release states that the National Sports Commission, (NSC), has reaffirmed its full support for the athletics.
