Ukwa West Education Authority Holds Orientation Exercise For Newly Recruited Teachers, Urges Them To Embrace Profession With Dedication

The Ukwa West Local Government Education Authority, on Friday, at the Obehie Central School, held an orientation exercise for Abia State newly recruited teachers posted to the Ukwa West Local Government Area.

Speaking on the topic, “The Role of A Teacher”, during the occasion, the Mayor of Ukwa West Local Government Area, Pst. Dike Nwankwo, who was represented by the Supervisory Councilor for Education in Ukwa West Local Government, Dr. Chike Eugene Okpokiri, applauded Governor Alex Otti, for the recent massive recruitment of teachers in the State, which he described as a milestone achievement. He noted that the teacher was a torchbearer of knowledge, cultivator of values and sentinel of moral uprightness.

In his address, the Education Secretary of Ukwa West Local Government Education Authority, Pst. Chukwuemeka Nwuju, charged the new teachers to embrace their noble vocation with dedication and pride.

“As newly recruited teachers, who have undergone series of rigorous training and orientations, we expect you to be diligent, dedicated, and disciplined. The challenges may be many, but the rewards of shaping young lives are immeasurable. Remember always that the classroom is not just a place to teach subjects, but also to inspire, to mentor, and to nurture the total child,” he said.

Professor Mgbechi Ogbuji, who spoke on,” Code of Conduct Discipline and Ethics of the Teaching Profession”, urged the teachers to uphold the sanctity of their calling by maintaining decorum, discipline and modesty. She warned against avoidable distractions, such as immodest dressing, flamboyant hairstyles, adding that their presence in the classrooms must inspire the pupils.
