In a bold move aimed at redefining the political trajectory of the Asa people, the Asa Development Union (ADU), the apex socio-cultural organisation in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, has inaugurated a 51-member committee tasked with the responsibility of developing a comprehensive political blueprint for the people of Ukwa West.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place at Chyvik Model Secondary School, Obehie, on Saturday, was presided over by the President General of ADU, Elder Goodluck Nwanneakolam Nwuju.
In his address, Nwuju emphasized the urgent need for greater political participation by the Asa people in both state and national politics, adding that the unity and collective commitment to advance the political interests of Ukwa West were of utmost importance.
The newly inaugurated committee, which is chaired by a former Secretary to the Abia State Government, Pastor Ralph Egbu, is expected to, among others:
▶️ Develop a strategic political blueprint for the Asa people of Ukwa West.
▶️ Create workable templates and strategies to increase Asa representation in government from May 29, 2027.
▶️ Propose a rotation framework for elective political offices among the three geo-political zones in Ukwa West starting from 2027 and beyond.
▶️ Engage and negotiate with relevant political stakeholders to ensure that only Asa candidates are fielded by all political parties for the House of Representatives seat in 2027, as Ukwa East people would have held the position for 20 consecutive years by then.
▶️ Promote peace, unity, and collaboration among political leaders and stakeholders in Ukwa West.
In his response, Pastor Ralph Egbu expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and his team. He assured the leadership of ADU and the people of Ukwa West that the committee would diligently execute its mandate and deliver a robust political framework that reflects the collective aspirations of the Asa people.
