Former Mayor, Newman Azu Describes Governor Alex Otti’s Reception In Ukwa West As Seismic Political Shift

The former Mayor of Ukwa West Local Government Area, Mr. Newman Azu, has described the overwhelming reception given to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, during his recent visit as a “seismic political shift” in the local political landscape.

Azu made this statement in a press release issued on Monday, September 1, 2025, reflecting on the massive turnout witnessed during the Governor’s visit to Ukwa West the previous Friday

“The crowd that welcomed Governor Otti is an eloquent testimony to the growing acceptance of his administration in Ukwa West and across Abia State,” he said.

Highlighting key infrastructure and development projects delivered under Governor Otti’s administration, Azu noted that the people’s support was driven by tangible results and inclusive governance.

“In just two years, Governor Otti has delivered critical infrastructure in Ukwa West, including the full renovation of the Ukwa West Local Government Headquarters, the Customary and High Courts, and the construction of a new administrative office for the Nigeria Police at Obehie,” Azu stated.

He further cited the completion of a major road project in Obehie, the remodeling and completion of the long-abandoned Asa Civic Centre, ongoing reconstruction of Obehie–Umudobia–Owaza Road, ongoing work on the Obehie–Ezendioma Road, among others.

“With all these life-impacting projects, there is no way the people of Ukwa West would not fall in love with their Governor,” Azu emphasized.

Azu, a grassroots political figure with tremendous influence, commended the residents of Ukwa West for coming out en masse to welcome the Governor. He described the show of support as a clear signal of changing political allegiance in the area.

“The warm reception and the almost uncontrollable crowd show that the political equation in Ukwa West is shifting dramatically in favour of Governor Otti and the Labour Party (LP),” he noted.

He expressed confidence in the Labour Party’s electoral prospects in Ukwa West, asserting that good governance naturally earns the trust and support of the people.
