The Youth President of Asa Development Union (ADU), Victor Enyioko, has raised alarm over the incessant vandalism of electricity transformers across Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, describing it as a major threat to community development and security.
In a strongly worded statement by on Tuesday, Enyioko condemned the recurring destruction of public infrastructure, stressing that the criminal acts have disrupted power supply to homes, schools, and businesses in affected communities.
He said, “in the light of these challenges, it is imperative that we, as a community, come together to combat these criminal activities.”
He emphasized the urgent need for collective action, urging residents to take responsibility for protecting public utilities. According to him, combating transformer vandalism requires community-driven strategies ranging from raising public awareness about the impact of vandalism, encouraging youths to form community watch groups, improving communication with local security agencies to ensuring that transformer locations are well-lit and secured.
Enyioko called on Ukwa youths to step up efforts in safeguarding public infrastructure, noting that active participation in community security is key to sustainable development.
The ADU Youth President reiterated that ensuring stable electricity and preventing vandalism were vital to empowering rural communities and improving quality of life in Ukwa West.
