Nigerian Governors Agree To Eliminate Illegal Roadblocks, Multiple Taxes To Curb Food Inflation

In a major step to tackle rising food inflation and improve the efficiency of Nigeria’s food supply chain, state governors have agreed to dismantle illegal roadblocks and eliminate multiple taxation across the country.

The resolution was reached on Thursday in Abuja during a meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF). According to a report by Channels Television, the governors identified unlawful roadblocks and redundant levies as key contributors to food price hikes and logistical inefficiencies.

Delivering the communiqué at the end of the meeting, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State said the governors unanimously resolved to address these issues urgently to ease the burden on farmers, transporters, and consumers.

The communiqué was officially signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The meeting also featured briefings by the National Security Adviser, accompanied by the Ministers of Defence, Agriculture and Food Security, Livestock Development, and Transportation, who highlighted the link between national security and food supply chain challenges.
