NDLEA Intercepts Consignment Packaged As Green Tea At Lagos Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Thursday, intercepted no fewer than 66 parcels of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis disguised as green tea at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.

According to a press release by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, the seizure took place on Thursday following credible intelligence. The illegal drug shipment had been placed on a watch list prior to its arrival at the import shed of the airport’s cargo wing on May 11th.

The NDLEA maintained over three weeks of surveillance before coordinating a joint examination with other relevant stakeholders. The operation led to the discovery of 66 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, cleverly concealed in packs of green tea.

The consignment, which weighed 62.20kg, originated from Thailand, transiting through the United Arab Emirates (UAE) aboard an Emirates Airlines flight.
