In a significant effort to improve educational facilities in Abia State, the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) has provided 90 desks and 24 tables to three primary schools in Ukwa West Local Government Area. This donation is part of ASOPADEC’s commitment to support the state’s education sector, particularly in oil-producing communities.
The recipient schools include Central School, Obehie, Community Primary School, Umunteke, and Community Primary School, Umuiku. The handover ceremony was led by the General Manager of ASOPADEC, Venerable Dr. Joshua Onyeike, who emphasized that the donation aligns with the Commission’s broader goal of improving educational infrastructure in underserved areas.
Representing the General Manager, Mrs. Ihuoma Onuegbu, the Director of the Education Unit at ASOPADEC, highlighted that the donation was made possible through the support of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti. She also shared that the Commission has continued to support students through initiatives such as undergraduate scholarships, school block renovations, and financial assistance for WAEC and JAMB exams for indigent students.
The General Manager encouraged students to maximize the new resources and dedicate themselves to their studies.
The school representatives expressed their gratitude, emphasizing how the lack of desks had long been a challenge. They praised the leadership of Dr. Joshua Onyeike and Governor Alex Otti for their unwavering support for education in the region, particularly in providing critical educational resources.
ASOPADEC’s ongoing commitment to enhancing education in Abia is expected to extend to more schools in the future, helping to foster better learning environments and improve academic outcomes for students in the region.
