Crisis Hits Ukwa West ZLP As Legislative Council Impeaches Leader Over Alleged Incompetence, Misconduct

A major political crisis has erupted within the Ukwa West chapter of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) following the impeachment of the Legislative Council Leader, Hon. Kenneth Agu, over allegations of gross misconduct and incompetence.

The dramatic development unfolded on Wednesday during a council session presided over by Deputy Leader Hon. Felix Ulelu, who has now assumed leadership following Agu’s removal. The motion to impeach Agu was moved by Majority Leader Hon. Dominica Ulunma Onyeike and was duly seconded.

In her statement, Onyeike accused Hon. Agu of demonstrating gross incompetence, an inability to manage legislative duties, and exhibiting highhanded leadership. She also made a startling allegation that Agu administered an oath of secrecy to some members through fetish means, which further fueled the call for his removal.

The motion to impeach was passed with a two-thirds majority, with seven out of ten council members voting in favor.

Hon. Felix Ulelu has officially taken over as the new Leader of the Ukwa West Legislative Council, marking a significant shift in the ZLP’s local political landscape.
