On Friday, May 9, 2025, the oil-rich community of Owaza in Abia State will bid farewell to one of its most illustrious sons, Sir Chief Christopher Sunday Nwuju Eletuo, who passed away at the age of 86.
As Owaza’s Traditional Prime Minister and a Knight of Saint Christopher of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Sir Eletuo was more than a leader—he was a pillar of development and a relentless advocate for education.
Sir Christopher Eletuo was not only known for his community leadership but also for his impactful career in both the private and public sectors. He served as a Senior Manager at Aba Textile Mill Plc until 1990, when he voluntarily resigned to fully dedicate his life to community service.
In Owaza, the largest oil-producing community in Abia State, Sir Eletuo focused much of his energy on empowering the youth through education. For over three decades, he served as Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Owaza Secondary School, ensuring the school received the resources and attention it deserved.
He believed that education was the strongest tool for community resilience, and his efforts ensured the school remained a cornerstone of academic excellence in the region.
In line with his lifelong commitment to education, Chief Anselm Eletuo, his only son, has built an e-library in Owaza in his father’s memory. The e-library will serve not just the community, but also neighboring areas, ensuring continued access to knowledge and digital learning tools.
