Prominent Legal Luminary, Ubani Slams Abure Over Unsavoury Remarks Against Abia Governor

A prominent Abia-born legal luminary, Dr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani, SAN, has strongly condemned recent remarks made by Julius Abure, the embattled former National Chairman of the Labour Party, describing Governor Alex Chioma Otti as a “dwarf both in appearance and in knowledge.

In a strongly worded rejoinder released on Sunday, Ubani, who labeled Abure’s comments as reckless, envious, and a sign of desperation, praised the Governor’s performance, noting the reconstruction of key infrastructure, revival of hospitals, prompt payment of civil servants, and an ongoing state-wide infrastructural renewal.

“These are not the actions of a ‘dwarf’ but of a giant in intellect and leadership,” he emphasized.

Ubani did not spare Abure, describing him as a controversial figure whose tenure as party chairman has been mired in corruption allegations, internal crises, and financial scandals.

“His outburst against Governor Otti can best be understood as the final scream of a drowning man gasping for relevance. He was imposed, used, and is now being discarded by powerful forces,” Ubani added, referencing the Supreme Court’s ruling that invalidated Abure’s claim to party leadership.

He affirmed that the Governor remains undistracted and continues to enjoy overwhelming support from the people of Abia State. “Whether he chooses to run under the Labour Party or any other political platform in 2027, Abians will follow him—not because of party colouration, but because of the substance of his leadership,” Ubani declared.
