In a bold move to bridge the digital divide and ensure inclusive access to communication services, the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State has launched a public awareness campaign to identify villages suffering from poor MTN network coverage.
According to a public service announcement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, Rev. Johnson Ihunanya Nwosu, the Local Council is currently compiling data on communities across Ukwa West that lack adequate MTN signal strength. The initiative is in line with the commitment of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Pastor Dike Briggs Nwankwo, to promote digital inclusion and enhance service delivery across the LGA.
The Council plans to use the information gathered to engage telecommunications providers, especially MTN Nigeria, as well as relevant regulatory authorities, to seek urgent intervention and infrastructural improvements.
“All Community Development Chairmen, youth leaders, community representatives, and concerned citizens are hereby kindly requested to indicate villages that suffer from poor or non-existent MTN network signals. Kindly provide the name of the village and brief details (eg population) to assist the collation process.”, the statement reads.
Submissions can be made through the office of the Chief Press Secretary via 09078269907 or the Secretary to the Local Government at +234 803 881 8187.
This development underscores the local government’s dedication to improving connectivity and ensuring that even the most remote areas of Ukwa West have access to reliable telecommunications services.
