The member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Ogah, has disclosed that no local government area in Nigeria today receives less than N250 million monthly from the Federal Government.

The lawmaker, who disclosed this during town hall meetings at Isuochi and Isuikwuato, said that with improved federal allocations, governors had no justification for withholding council funds.

He said:

“No LGA in Nigeria today receives less than N250 million monthly from the federal government. That’s why governors are holding tight to LGA allocations. The National Assembly and Mr. President are working hard to free LGAs from the control of governors by granting them financial autonomy.

“If N250 million reaches every LGA monthly, the level of development at the grassroots will be remarkable. This will also reduce the burden on lawmakers, as many constituent demands are actually the responsibilities of LGAs.”

“If you look at these LGAs, they are the most neglected in their current states. For instance, Umunneochi and Isuikwuato are not even included in Abia’s electricity design. Similar neglect is seen in other areas. These people need to be remembered.”

Ogah assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was genuinely committed to creating an additional State in the South East region.

In his words, “The good news is that President Tinubu sincerely wants to create an additional state for the South East to address the imbalance. We have sponsored the bill for the creation of Etiti State, which has already passed second reading and enjoys wide acceptance among lawmakers and the public.”

He emphasized that the creation of Etiti State would correct historical injustices and fast-track development in the region.
