The Ukwa West Traditional Rulers Council, on Saturday, at the palace of its Chairman, HRH Eze Chinyere Dike at Umuokwor, Asa in Ukwa West Local Government Area, upheld the election and declaration of Elder Goodluck Nwuju as the President General of Asa Development Union, ADU.
It should be recalled that the recent election of Nwuju during a crucial meeting of the ADU at Chyvik Model Secondary School, Obehie, was criticised by some critical stakeholders of the Union, who had questioned the process that led to the emergence of the new President General.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary General of ADU, Sir Boniface Nwaigwe, the Chairman of the Ukwa West Traditional Rulers upheld the election of Nwuju, and urged all the people of Asa to accept the outcome of the election for the peace and progress of the land.
The statement reads in part:
“The imbroglio arising from the conduct of the Asa Development Union’s Presidential Bye Election and the emergence of Elder Goodluck Nwanneakolam Nwuju as the President General Elect, has finally been laid to rest today, Saturday 19th October 2024. This is sequel to the intervention of Ukwa West Traditional Rulers Council, under the able Chairmanship of HRM Eze Chinyere A.E. Dike (Isi 1 of Isimanu Autonomous Community).
“In a well attended Stakeholders meeting which held at the Palace of the Chairman of Nde Eze Asa, the Traditional Rulers in one voice, upheld the election and declaration of Elder Goodluck Nwuju while urging all the people of Asa to accept the outcome of the election for the peace and progress of the Land.
“The Traditional Rulers who spoke through their Chairman, noted that Asa Land is in dare need of development, hence the people do not have to waste precious time fighting for who becomes the A.D.U. President, but should rather be united in tackling the numerous challenges bedeviling Asa and also ensuring that our people take their rightful places in Government and every other spaces.
“They condemned the attempts by various actors to politicize the leadership selection process of the apex sociocultural Organization; insisting that the Union must remain apolitical to be able to fully serve it’s purpose, which is to speak for the interest of Asa people in high and low places.
“The Traditional Rulers further admonished anyone who may have been aggrieved by the process and or the outcome of the said election to sheath their sword and support the current National Executive Council of Asa Development Union, while also charging the President General Elect and the entire NEC members to focus on uniting the people for greater productivity.”
I commend the traditional Rulers of ukwa west for doing the needful this time. They have really restored the prestige of Asa improvement union (ADU).
