Former Commissioner in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Chief Nwogu Nnah Nwogu, has appealed to the people of Ukwa to throw their weight behind the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming general elections of 2023.
Nwogu, who is the Treasurer of the Abia State APC, made the appeal in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital during an interview with Newsportal on Saturday. He stated that he was convinced that an APC government in Abia State, would attend to the infrastructural needs of Ukwa, adding that the area had witnessed unspeakable neglect for the past 15 years under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He expressed optimism that the APC under the leadership of High Chief Ikechi Emenike appreciates Ukwa West Local Government Area as an oil producing area that deserves tremendous attention of the Abia State government.
“By the grace of God, if High Chief Emenike emerges as the governor of Abia State, he would accord Ukwa West a special status as the only oil producing area and this, no doubt, makes the development of the area a priority.”, he said.
Nwogu disclosed that the current leadership of the APC is known for integrity, purposefulness, and compassion for the people of Abia, stressing that the whole of the State would never regret giving support to the party.
He also appreciated Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu for his vision and passion for the party since his emergence as the Chairman of the Abia State APC.
Nwogu regretted that he did not have enough time to address the infrastructural challenges of Abia State, particularly Ukwa West, while he was on the board of the NDDC.
He said:
“I was on the board of the NDDC for only eight months before it was dissolved, and the period was too short to make any meaningful impact in Ukwa. I plead with my people of Ukwa to remember that it was the commitment and love of High Chief Ikechi Emenike for Ukwa that made him work towards making the Federal Government to abide by the Act establishing the NDDC, which states that its Board members must come from oil producing areas, as against the selfish intentions of some people.”
He said it had become obvious that it was an APC government that would make Ukwa enjoy the benefits of being an oil producing area.
