Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, Commissioner for Environment, Abia State

The Abia State Commissioner for Environment and Urban Renewal, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, has called on the people of Abia State to ensure that their environments are kept clean always.

He also said that as a people who love God, Abians remind themselves, at all times, that cleanliness is next to Godliness, adding that it was tantamount to a doublespeak to say that we love God live in an unclean and unhealthy environment.

Speaking to our correspondent in his office at Umuahia, the Abia State capital, Ogbonna urged the people to embrace the vision of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, on the possibility of a New Abia.

The Commissioner said the people and the government were in partners in progress, and should drive together the campaign of keeping Abia State clean, stressing that as God’s own State, there was need to raise a standard that other States would strive to follow in all spheres of life.

He disclosed that the government of Abia State ably led by Otti was ready and determined to improve on the environment of the State, particularly the major cities.

Ogbonna frowned at a situation whereby road users would throw away garbages along the streets, forgetting that these wastes eventually find way into the gutters and block the drainages in the towns.

He advised road users, particularly drivers to leave wastes in their vehicles, and dispose them at designated waste sites.
