Amidst Pressure For Recall, PDP Passes Vote Of Confidence On House Member in Abia State
Hon. Uzoma Nkem Abonta

The member representing the Ukwa East / Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Hon. Uzoma Nkem Abonta has asked some of his constituents rooting for his recall from the green chamber to wait until 2023 to vote him out if they can.

It should be recalled that a group known as the Coalition For Ukwa Leadership Accountability, COFULA, last week, passed a vote of no confidence on the honourable member, and commenced the process for his recall, at a meeting held at the Obohia Town hall in the Ukwa East Local Government Area.

In an interview with Flo FM 94.9 Umuahia, Abonta stated that he has done well as a legislator considering the bills he has sponsored in the House.

He said, ” How can anybody within Abia say I am not a good representation. I am sure you know it. Being a journalist, I am sure you follow the House work. If you follow the House work, can you believe them. Can you agree with them, having seen my legislative exploits.

“I had the highest number of bills. For the first tenure, second tenure, third tenure, I had the highest number of bills. As I speak to you now, the different Presidents have assented to my bills, not less than five that became law. Is that a mean thing?. Let them wait, 2023 they vote me out, if they can.”

On the Obehie – Azumini – Ukanafun road his Federal Constituency, which has been abandoned for a long time, Abonta said he had told his people during a meeting recently that when the project came, people in the area began to erect structures by the roadsides that encumbered the road.

According to him, 79 filling stations, 121 grave yards and several markets were erected, and the Federal Government said it was not going to pay any compensations, as the structures were not there initially.

He said he made several efforts to ensure that the structures were removed, but the situation did not change.

The Federal lawmaker further explained that the contractor, therefore, decided to concentrate its work along the portions of the road that were not encumbered.
