The Obiakpu Community in Obuzor Ukwu Autonomous Community, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, has returned home after three months in exile, following the alleged tragic killing of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officers on February 25, 2025.
The community’s return was made possible through successful peace negotiations led by the newly enthroned Eze-Elect of Obuzor Ukwu, High Chief Stanley Ikechukwu Eche, in collaboration with the NSCDC leadership.
During a welcome address, Commander Boniface Audu of the Federal Special Team of NSCDC Emergency Operations urged community members to support efforts to recover the rifles stolen during the deadly attack. He emphasized that recovering the missing arms is crucial to restoring lasting peace in the area. The Commander also cautioned local youths against engaging in illegal oil bunkering, warning that offenders would face the full force of the law.
In his remarks, Eze-Elect High Chief Stanley Ikechukwu Eche expressed gratitude to the NSCDC Commandant General, the Abia State Commandant, and other security agencies for facilitating the safe return of his people. He acknowledged the critical role played by various stakeholders and assured the Corps of intensified community efforts to locate and return the stolen weapons.
Other community leaders also extended condolences to the NSCDC for the loss of their officers. They pledged to assist in tracking down the perpetrators and recovering the weapons to ensure justice and sustained peace in Obiakpu.
