The Asa Development Union, ADU, the apex socio-cultural organisation in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, has set up a Committee to liaise with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to facilitate the immediate return of the Ukwa High Court to Obehie.
It should be recalled that the Ukwa High Court that was sitting at Obehie was moved to Aba during the Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu led administration on the grounds that the roads leading to Obehie were bad.
In a statement signed by its Acting President General, Barrister G.O.C. Ihenko, the Union stated that the reasons adduced for the relocation of the High Court was no more tenable as the condition of the roads had improved.
The statement reads in part:
“Presently, the grounds upon which the Ukwa High Court was relocated is becoming ephemeral, as our roads are now receiving impressive attentions, making them motorable for all road users. Hence, it has become imperative that relentless efforts be made to immediately return the Ukwa High Court to Obehie.
“We are therefore not unmindful that there had been efforts made by some of our illustrious sons and daughters of Asa land in this direction. However, it has become necessary that ADU as a body approach this issue frontally through its Committee, who shall also engage some Asa Sons and Daughters that are highly placed in the present Government to ensure huge success.”
According to the statement, the Committee is to liaise with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to facilitate the immediate return of Ukwa High Court to Obehie, and interface with the Chief Judge of Abia State, Attorney General of Abia State and any other relevant authority to cause the creation of additional Court/s for Ukwa High Court Jurisdiction.
The Committee, which has until January 31,2024, is composed of the following members; Barr. Munachiso E. Nwosuegbe, Chairman; Barr. Sam Ogbonna, Secretary; Barr. Chiemela Enyioko, Pastor Dike Nwankwo, Director General, Abia State Orientation Agency, ABSOA, and Hon. Godwin Adiele, member representing Ukwa West State Constituency, Abia State House of Assembly Member.
