The Wailing Women of the Niger Delta (WWND) has said they would protest naked if the Federal Government failed to constitute the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
The women, who issued the threat while blocking the entrance of the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, also protested against the delay of the Federal Government to publish the report of the forensic audit of the operations of the Commission.
It should be recalled that in October, 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered a forensic audit of the operations of the NDDC from 2001 to 2019, and the President in June, this year said the NDDC Board would be inaugurated after the forensic audit report had been submitted and accepted. “I want to assure you that as soon as the forensic audit is submitted and accepted, the NDDC board will be inaugurated”.
With placards of various inscriptions such as ‘All we need is a Board’, ‘Niger Delta Women Insist On A Board Today’, ‘Malami, Akpabio Leave NDDC Alone’, the women led by Adienbo Odighonu, a lawyer, conveyed their grievances to the Federal Government.
Hope they will continue with this action until something is done.
